Shelly Fryer |
Shelly Fryer teaches 3rd and 4th grade at Positive Tomorrows in Oklahoma. This is an elementary school specifically for homeless children. Shelly has over 20 years of teaching experience. She was named PBS Digital Innovator in 2015. I really liked how she had links to everything on her site. This made it easy to learn more about what certain thing she was discussing. In the section titled classroom website she provides links to the classes YouTube channel, radio show, and photos of the class.
Technology 101 Skills for Teachers
Overall I really enjoyed Shellys site. I think this is a good example of how teachers can incorporate technology into teaching. It's a good resource for beginning and expierenced teachers to have. The site is a good example on how to have a website for your own class. The site flowed together really well and was easy to navigate. There are many links provided on the page so you can easily find and research more on what she is discussing. If you haven't checked her page out yet I definitely would. You can access her site here.

In this blog Shelly talks about being involved in plus schools. Plus schools are mostly focused on intergrating arts into the curriculum. She discussed how to use iPads to accomplish this goal. She talks about instead of just putting a student on an app technology should be used to enhance the students creativity. Shelly talks about how some students catch on to technology quicker, I find this to be very true. Some students have more experience with technology than others. Teachers need to help guide students on what apps they should be using and how to properly utilize them. She also talks about how teachers need to know the iPad lingo. This was especially interesting to me because I had never heard of any of the terms she had listed. She also talks about how having some place to share the students work is important. I agree with this, a place like a classroom website or google site is a good place to be able share the students work so it's saved and easy accessible. She also emphasized making sure videos and apps are safe for the students to view. She gave some app suggestions to help ensure that the videos being shown to the class are safe and appropriate. One site she suggested is Safeshare.tv. This site allows you to put YouTube links into the website to make sure they are appropriate and take out any inappropriate adds or things. This blog has a lot of tips and information for teachers that I found very helpful.
